This Joseph Axtell is very likely a progenitor of 1755 Moses Axtell
and 1802 Joseph Axtell, but this is still uncertain.


The inscriptions on his grave marker read thusly:

        In Memory of me

      Joseph Axtell  who

      Died March 1, 1794

      in the 85th Year

         of his age.


  Behold and See as you pass by
  As you are now so once was I
  As I am now so you must be
  Prepare for Death and follow me


The inscription is fairly clear and readable, except for
the day and year of his death.  I read it as March 1, 1794
but that could be wrong.  -JAS-
