1859 Lydia Abiah Olendorf



Born: May  27, 1859  probably at Afton, Chenango County, NY

Died: Oct. 18, 1932  probably at Afton, Chenango County, NY

She is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, Chenango County, NY.


Her father was 1823 John Jackson Olendorf.

Her mother was 1831 Clarissa Abiah Newton.


She was married to Schuyler Vanunsler Sherman on April 27, 1882 in Afton NY.

They had five children together:

  Ralph Sherman                born Nov.  6, 1883 in Afton, NY
  Manville (Schuyler) Sherman  born Feb. 21, 1888 in Afton, NY  (aka Manville)
  William C. Sherman           born Sep.  5, 1891 in Afton, NY
  Mary Ellen Sherman           born Mar. 18, 1895  (died Mar. 28, 1896)
  Myrtle Ida Sherman           born Mar. 13, 1897 in Bennettsville, NY
  
The 1902 Afton Business Directory states that Schuyler and Lydia 
were living on Route 29, Bennettsville, NY as a farmer with six 
dairy cows and owned 51 acres of land.  

The 1910 census for Afton, Chenango County, NY lists:

  Schuyler,      age 56 
  Lydia,         age 51 
  Manville,      age 24 
  William C.,    age 18
  Myrtle,        age 13

The 1920 census for Afton, Chenango County, NY lists:

  Schuyler,      age 64;
  Liddie (Lydia) age 60; and 
  Manville,      age 33.  

They were living next to 1891 William Crandall Sherman.

Schuyler purchased the Sherman Homestead between 1902 and 1910.

Their grandson Charles and his wife Marcia lived on this farm
until Charles passed away in 2013; Marcia lives there still as
of Feb. 2021, with her son David Sherman; next door another
son, Charles Jr. ("Chuck") lives on land that was split off
from the original farm.


Lydia died from intestinal obstruction, peritinitus and
cardiac arrest.  Dr. Ben Dodge signed the death certificate,
reg. # 12, page 6, at the Town Clerk's office, Afton, NY.

Lydia's funeral was held at her home in East Afton, 
Chenango County, NY.  The Reverend Lynn Crawford officiated.

At the time of her death she was aged 73 years, 4 months 23 days.
