E.J. Pulis, 81, Stricken on Way to Town


Elmer James Pulis, 81, who first came to Park County 46 years ago,
was stricken with a fatal heart attack Tuesday en route to Livingston
on a business trip.

With him in the car at the time were his wife, Huldah Marie and his
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Pulis of Wilsall.

Survivors include two other sons, the Rev. Ivan Pulis of Livingston
and the Rev. Harley Pulis of Thermopolis, Wyo.; four granddaughters
and one grandson at Santa Barbara, Cal.

A Native of Houtzdale [sic - actually Honesdale] Pennsylvania and
the son of James Mortimer and Jane Brown Pulis, the family moved to
a farm near Aldenville, PA when he was one year old, and then moved
to Bangor S.D. when he was eight years old.  At the age of 15 he went
with his father to Portland, Oregon and stayed there three months
before returning to Bangor.  He started a general store in Bangor 
when he was 21 years old and continued in that business for ten years.
Later he worked in or operated stores in Selby, S.D. and Glenburn, 
N.D. and again at Selby.

He married 1879 Huldah Marie Johnson on November 12, 1906.  

At Selby he bought a farm in 1907, where he lived until 1911 when the 
family moved to Latt, a postoffice in the north end of Park County, 
Montana, where they lived until 1919.

From 1919 until 1925 the family lived in Woodburn, Oregon but then
returned to Park County.  They have resided at the Pulis ranch near
Wilsall since 1929. 

Mr. Pulis was an active member of the Wilsall Community church.  
The remains are at the Cloyd Mortuary.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 2:00 pm
at the Livingston Bible church, of which his son (Ivan) is pastor.
The Rev. Harold Leppke and the Rev. Simon Forsberg will officiate.
The Rev. and Mrs. Waldo Wall, accompanied by Mrs. Leo George at the
organ, will sing "We Shall Shine on the Stars" and "What a Friend
We Have in Jesus".  Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Pall bearers will be James Pepper, Arthur Bohleen, Lowell McClung,
Henry Walton, Herbert Walton and Everett Frame.
