They had these children together: 1918 Joseph Lester "Pal" Asbury (1918 - 2005) 1920 Vernon Asbury (1920 - 1921) Vervian died in 1920, shortly after giving birth to her younger son Vernon, as a result of the 1918 worldwide influenza epidemic. Shortly after that, in 1921, baby Vernon died also of the same cause. Following is an account of her death in the newspaper from Sullivan County, Indiana: Sullivan Daily Times, February 9, 1920 ====================================== MRS. LESTER ASBURY DEAD AT SPOKANE LIVED ONLY TWELVE HOURS AFTER HUSBAND RETURNED FROM FATHER'S FUNERAL Mrs. W.L. Ford, Sullivan R.R.A., has received a message informing her of the death at Spokane, Wash., of Mrs. Asbury, wife of Mrs. Ford's brother, Lester Asbury. She died of pneumonia Friday night. Mrs. Asbury died twelve hours after her husband arrived home after accompanying the body of his father, Col. A.P. Asbury, to Farmersburg for burial. Col. Asbury died recently while visiting his daughter at Eagle, Idaho. The funeral of Col. Asbury was held at Farmersburg last Monday. When Mr. Asbury left his home in Spokane to accompany his father's body to Farmersburg his wife was in good health. She contracted pneumonia while Mr. Asbury still was in Sullivan county and she died twelve hours after he arrived home. Besides her husband she leaves two children one a baby only a few days old. She also is survived by a mother, brother and two sisters. The burial will be at Spokane. On account of the great distance, Mr. Asbury advised the members of his family in this county not to attend the funeral.
