1895 Harriet May Hadley

Born: Mar. 16, 1895 in Rochester, Monroe County, NY Died: Oct. 5, 1918 at Samaritan Hospital in Mechanicville, Saratoga County, NY She was buried at Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, Chemung County, NY Her father was 1862 John Caton Hadley. Her mother was 1857 Delia Lillian Tifft. She was married April 13, 1917 to 1895 Claude Marvin Dutcher. She died in 1918 at the age of 23 due to pneumonia, another victim of the 1918 world-wide Spanish Flu epidemic. At the time of her death, she and Claude were living at 702 Broadway in Mechanicville, NY, having moved there recently. Mechanicville is in Saratoga County, NY, north and east of Albany. Note that the death announcement in the newspaper states that her age at the time of death was 33 years, however other sources put her date of birth as March 16, 1895, which would mean that she died at the age of 23. The announcement also states that she was born in Binghamton, but other sources claim she was born in Rochester. So, two different dates and two different places; research continues. Here is a scan of a page from the "Johnson City-Endicott Record" newspaper, stating that an error had been made in the wedding announcement, stating that Harriet was in fact a "Miss", i.e. that she was unmarried at the time she and Claude married.
