1929 Irma Dorothy Livingston (Sherman) Obituary


Irma Dorothy Livingston (Sherman) passed away on the morning of 
October 31, 2014, at the age of 85, while living in Kennewick, WA.

She was born April 11, 1929 on the family farm in Vallonia Springs (Afton),
New York, the seventh child of Austin Livingston and Norma Pulis.

She was married March 4, 1950 to Manville (John) Sherman, in Hancock, NY.
They divorced in 1970.

Irma is survived by her eight children: 

  James, Joan, Joyce, Joe, John, June, Jerry and Jesse;

by grand-children Jason Marshall, Kendra Marshall, Blair Sherman, 
Blake Sherman, Jeremy Sherman, Jessica Sherman, Nicole Robinson, 
Regina Ahl, John Sherman III, Brian Collins, Matthew Collins,
Michael John Paul Collins, Amber Sherman, and Amanda Sherman;

  by her cousin Shirley Morley Woodruff;

  by sisters-in-law, Rose Smith Livingston and Joy Wormuth;

  and by numerous nieces, nephews and more distant cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all her eight siblings:

Irma was a Registered Nurse and worked as such for most of her life.  
In the 1980's she worked for two years as a nurse in Saudi Arabia.
She worked full-time, usually at night, for nearly her entire adult
life up to age 65, even while raising eight children.  

For the last several years of her life, Irma was in assisted living
with complications of dementia.  She died of natural causes.

SHERMAN, Irma Dorothy Livingston, RN    (85 Years of Life)    

Passed away peacefully on the morning of October 31, 2014, at age 85,
while residing in Kennewick, WA.

She was born April 11, 1929 on the family farm in Vallonia Springs (Afton),
New York, the seventh child of Austin Livingston and Norma Pulis.Irma
married her first love, Manville (John) Sherman, on March 4, 1950 in
Hancock, NY. 

They lived in various places in New York State, North Carolina, 
New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, then finally settled in Missoula, Montana.  

John and Irma had eight children during their 20 years of marriage.  
They parted ways in 1970.Irma is survived by her eight children: 
James, Joan, Joyce Marshall, Joe, John, June Robinson, Jerry, and Jesse; 
by grandchildren 
  Blair and Blake Sherman (Jim); 
  Jason and Kendra Marshall (Joyce); 
  Valarie Sherman Bigler (Joe), 
  Brian, Matthew, and Michael John Paul Collins-Sherman (Joe); 
  John Sherman III (John); 
  Nicole Robinson and Regina Robinson Ahl (June); 
  Amber and Amanda Sherman (Jerry); 
  Jeremy and Jessica Sherman (Jesse); 
and nine great-grandchildren; cousin Shirley Morley Woodruff and others; 
sister-in-law, Rose Smith Livingston; and numerous nieces, nephews and 
distant cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her eight siblings:
Kenneth (1), Margaret, Kenneth (2), Betty, Dorothy, (un-named son), Alta,
and Robert.  Irma worked as a Registered Nurse for 52 years.  

Irma graduated from nursing school at Binghamton General Hospital in
Binghamton, NY in 1949.  She was employed at various hospitals in 
New York State, Missoula, MT (1959 to 1980), Spokane, WA (1980 to 1982), 
Saudi Arabia (1982 to 1984) and then Madigan Hospital at Fort Lewis, WA 
until she retired in 1996.  After retiring, she moved to Loon Lake, WA 
where she resided for twelve years.  She continued to work part-time 
until she was in her early 70's and no longer able.

Irma eventually moved into assisted living and resided at "A Better View"
Adult Family Home in Suncrest, WA for six years.

She was moved to Kennewick, WA on October 3rd to be closer to family 
and then passed away on October 31st from natural causes.  She will 
be missed by all who knew her.

While living in Loon Lake, Irma met Paul Schaffner, of Ford, WA, 
who became her best friend and soul mate.  Paul looked after Irma 
when she lived in Loon Lake and continued to be her companion when 
she transitioned into assisted living.  

Paul preceded Irma in death as he passed away in November 2012. 
Irma is buried next to Paul in Pleasant View Cemetery, Ford, WA.

Irma enjoyed traveling and had the pleasure of visiting several 
European countries with her son, Jesse, while working abroad as 
a nurse in Saudi Arabia. 

Irma was a talented self-taught pianist and could also play the 
accordion. She enjoyed singing, dancing, reading, embroidery, 
ceramics, and swimming.  Her favorite vacation spot in Montana 
was Lolo Hot Springs. 

She loved listening to Lawrence Welk shows and classical music. 

To celebrate Irma's life, services will be held at 10:30 am on 
Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park.

Pastor Sonny Clemmer of Springdale Community Church (WA) will
